Mexico City, March 19th, 2018. During 2018, egg prodution in Mexico will reach 2.8million tons, which mean san increase of #% compared to that obtained in 2017. This figure shows the consistency of the annual growth of the egg industry from 1994 to 2018, calculated at 2.9%, said César Quesada Macías, president of Unión Nacional de AVicultores.
When presenting an estimate of egg production and consumption in Mexico, the president of poultry farmers, announced that for this year, per capita consumption in the country, will be 22.8 kg., so our country wll remain the world´s forst egg consumer. About, the businessman explained that the consumption of eggs in Mexico has historically been favored by various factors, however, the most relevant factor has been its accessible price, compared to other sources of animal origin.
This has been achieved thanks to the high integration, productivity and competitiveness that the egg industry permanently shows, which has allowed for many years already,
Since the entry into force of NAFTA in 1994, egg production in Mexico, would almost double its volumen for 2018, from 1.4 million to 2.8 million tons, this is a sign of the great capacity of the national industry to face the emerging challengesand thus continue working on efficency to supply the national market.
According to information provided by FAO, within the Mexican livestock sector, the contribution of egg protein to the market is 17%. Also, the egg industry in Mexico in Minly located in: Jalisco (55%), Puebla (15%), Sonora (8%), La Comarca Lagunera (5%), Yucatán (5%), Nuevo León (3%) y Guanajuato (2%).
